About Our Providers

Confidence In Every Credential

What is the difference between an AP Aesthetician and a Aesthetician?

With so many skincare titles circulating—Aesthetician, AP Aesthetician, Medical Aesthetician, Cosmetologist, and Clinical Skincare Therapist—it’s easy to wonder what those credentials actually mean. Who is truly qualified to perform advanced skincare treatments on your skin?

To bring clarity and elevate industry standards, the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners introduced a major licensure update in 2018—designed to better protect clients and raise the bar for professional skincare services statewide. This initiative established the Advanced Practice Aesthetician (APE) license, setting higher standards for education, training, and clinical expertise. Today, APE licensure ensures your provider has advanced knowledge, hands-on experience, and the qualifications needed to safely deliver results-driven treatments with confidence.

While many aestheticians proudly display their license in their treatment room, clients can easily verify credentials anytime through the Minnesota Board of Cosmetology’s online license lookup. Simply enter your aesthetician’s first and last name to view their active license status.

Understanding this advanced level of licensing matters. Skincare can feel overwhelming, and not all credentials are created equal. An Advanced Practice Aesthetician license means your provider has completed higher-level education and training—ensuring treatments are performed safely, responsibly, and with the highest standards of care. This added expertise allows clients to feel confident knowing they are receiving effective, professional, and well-informed treatments every step of the way.

When it comes to your skin, credentials matter. Choosing an Advanced Practice Aesthetician means choosing expertise, safety, and confidence in your care.

In Minnesota, Who Should Patients Trust For Injectable Treatments?

In Minnesota, injectable treatments in a medical spa are regulated through medical oversight and delegation. While state regulations may allow various trained providers with no medical backround to perform injections under appropriate supervision, it’s important to understand that injectables involve the administration of prescription medication and require a strong foundation in medical knowledge.

Registered Nurses (RN) and advanced medical providers like Nurse Practitioners (NP), and Medical Doctors receive extensive education in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medication safety. This background prepares them to properly assess patients, understand contraindications, recognize complications, and respond quickly and appropriately if concerns arise.

For this reason, many medical spas choose to have injectables administered by RNs or higher-level providers. This approach prioritizes patient safety, clinical judgment, and evidence-based care—helping ensure treatments are performed responsibly and with a thorough understanding of the medical factors involved.

At Beauty HQ, all injectable treatments are exclusively performed by a licensed Registered Nurse or higher-level medical provider. We always recommend you do your research on your provider, you want to know who is injecting your beautiful face.
